Emory Law Celebrates Its Centennial Year

The 2016-2017 academic year will include many of the events and conferences that have made Emory Law a convener of important conversations. This year, however, the significance of the Centennial celebration will elevate many of our usual events and offer some new ones, providing wider exposure to the works of Emory Law and welcoming influential voices to the school and community.

Centennial Weekend Celebration

Thursday, April 27 – Sunday, April 30, 2017

All alumni are invited to celebrate with Emory Law as we commemorate our Centennial year. Weekend festivities will also include reunion celebrations for the following classes: 1966, 1967, 1971, 1972, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1986, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2012.

A collection of photographs from MacMillan Law Library’s rich historical archives traces the history of Emory Law from its earliest days to the present. The exhibition is displayed chronologically, starting on the first floor and then proceeding upward through the law library to tell the story of 100 years of distinguished legal education and service to the rule of law. Immigration and Presidential Power Panel Discussion*

Battles over US immigration policy have raged for more than a century. Recent refugee crises—in multiple regions around the world—have intensified those debates. Likewise, Americans have debated policy questions related to the treatment of those who arrived in the United States as young children, but lack residency rights. This panel will engage the legal, political, and foreign relations dimensions of immigration policy including the scope and limits of executive power in shaping immigration law. Panelists include Silas Allard 11L, Professor Mary Dudziak, Hipolito Goico 95L, and Professor Polly Price 86C 86G

Emory Law in the American Twentieth Century 

From the moment of its inception to the present, Emory Law has been shaped by historical forces and, in turn, has helped to transform history. Emory Law has not only responded to events on the national and the world stage but also has prepared lawyers, scholars, and civic leaders to meet the unexpected twists that world events can give to the complexity of the law. University historian Gary Hauk outlines the arc of the past century with stories of critical moments and the men and women who responded to them.

It will be the party of a century as we celebrate Emory Law’s rich legacy and promising future. Join Emory Law alumni, faculty, staff, and students as we transform the gymnasium of the Woodruff PE Center into a grand gala hall to honor Senator Sam A. Nunn Jr. 61L 62L with the Centennial Lifetime Achievement Award and hear a keynote address from President Bill Clinton, Founder of the Clinton Foundation and 42nd President of the United States. The gala is black-tie optional.
