Raykin is executive managing editor of Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal, which honored Morawetz in 2012 with its Distinguished Award for Lifetime Achievement. After Morawetz contacted Emory Law Dean Robert Schapiro about sponsoring the trip, interested Journal students were asked to submit a resume and letter of interest, said Emory Law Professor Rafael Pardo. He chose Raykin after finding her submission “the strongest of the group.”
“Her record of achievements and professional pursuits during her time at the School of Law evince a well-developed and robust interest in both national and international bankruptcy,” Pardo said.
The conference features about 75 speakers known among insolvency law, including justices, attorneys and financial experts. Professors from leading U.S. and Canadian law schools are also presenters and panelists. Attendance as a student offers a great chance for professional development, Pardo said.
“Alla will very ably represent the School of Law and its strengths in bankruptcy law,” Pardo added. “Undoubtedly, she will be an excellent ambassador to fly the Emory flag.”
The conference is hosted by the National Centre for Business Law at the University of British Columbia.
