International law review honors standouts

Emory International Law Review
Award Recipients

The Emory International Law Review seeks annually to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of certain members. While EILR’s publication is a team-effort, the following students exemplify the best of EILR Volume 33.

Red Pen Award – Shannon Patrick 20L

The annual Red Pen Award is given to the best 2L spader over the past year. The best spader consistently exhibits excellent work in sourcing, spading, both above the line and below the line, and galleying. The best spader goes above and beyond to help make EILR, and its publications, better. This year’s recipient of the Red Pen Award is Shannon Patrick 20L, who consistently surpassed expectations in her attention to detail and her ability to correctly identify required changes.

The Founders Award for Excellence in Legal Writing and Research – Paige Parker 20L

The annual Founders Award for Excellence in Legal Writing and Research is given to the author of the best student comment, in which both the novelty of the topic and the quality of writing are considered. The winner of this year’s award is Paige Parker 20L with her student comment entitled The BUILD Act: A Shift in U.S. Global Investment Strategy and its Impact on Sub-Saharan Africa. Parker’s comments utilized a wide range of sources and exhibited a deep understanding of the issues stemming from the BUILD Act and was written in a manner and style that both academics and those unfamiliar with the topic could understand.

Excellence in Editorial Management - Kimberlee Thompson Raley 19L

The Excellence in Editorial Management award is a newly unveiled award, given to the managing editor who sets the bar in his or her work managing the 2L staff members of EILR. The winner of this year’s Excellence in Editorial Management award is Kimberly Thompson Riley 19L. Riley went above and beyond in handling both the day-to-day and the project management responsibilities of a managing editor.

Excellence in Comment Mentorship - Alex Pierce 19L

The Excellence in Comment Mentorship award is also a new award, given to the notes and comments editor who helps guide 2L members through the comment writing process, providing substantive feedback on multiple comment drafts. The winner of this year’s Excellence in Comment Mentorship award is Alex Pierce 19L.

Congratulations to all of the EILR award recipients.
