Public Lectures: We have three major lectures and one series of lectures under the joint auspices of the Law and Religion Program and other organizations on the campus. All of these lectures are free and are open to the public.

President Jimmy Carter, William H. Foege. MD, MHP, Habitat for Humanity Founder Millard Fuller and Feminist Legal Scholar Martha A. Fineman will share the stage with renowned church historian and author Martin E. Marty, University of Chicago,during several lectures during the 2003-2004 academic year. The lectures are part of the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Religion's Fall Forum series, and they are free and open to the public.

Oct. 27: William H. Foege, MD, MPH, will deliver this year's Currie Lecture in Law and Religion, “Children – Will we ever get it right?”, at noon in the Tull Auditorium. This will be a live webcast, please click here to see it. This link will be activated shortly before noon, EST.

Feb 17: Millard Fuller will deliver the Decalogue Lecture on "Where Do The Children Live?" 6:30-8:30PM, Tull Auditorium.

Marty is co-directing the CISR's project on children with John Witte, Jr., Jonas Robitscher Professor of Law and Ethics. Marty is the second Robert W. Woodruff Visiting Professor of Interdisciplinary Religious Studies and will be in residence at the CISR for the 2003-2004 academic year.

The Law and Religion Program sponsors lectures by noted authorities in law and religion. The Overton and Lavona Currie Lecture Series in Law and Religion has featured: Alan Boesak (South Africa), Rebecca S. Chopp (Emory), Menachem Elon (Israeli Supreme Court), Os Guinness (Williamsburg Charter Foundation), David Hartman (Jerusalem), Martin E. Marty (Chicago), Steven Ozment (Harvard), Brian Tierney (Cornell), Desmond Tutu, and Charles Villa-Vicencio (Cape Town). The newly established Decalogue Lecture Series has featured John T. Noonan, Jr. (U.S. Court of Appeals). Other public lecturers have included Derrick Bell (NYU), Stephen Carter (Yale), Jean Bethke Elshtain (Chicago), Rajmohan Ghandi (India), Ira Glaser (ACLU), Natan Lerner (Tel Aviv), Makau Mutua (Harvard), and Lloyd Weinreb (Harvard), among many others.
 
The Law and Religion Program also hosts 8-12 lunch colloquia each year featuring individual presentations by Emory or visiting scholars. The Program has also hosted and co-sponsored several thematic colloquia on such themes as "Altruism and Risk," "Ancient Law," "Beyond Racism," "Conflict Resolution," "Historical Truth and Truth-Telling," "Islamic Hermeneutics and History" "Law, Religion, and Black Experience," "Women in Islam," and others.
