Roadmap to Graduation

Spring 2023 Graduation

The law school’s Degree Candidate Recognition Ceremony is scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Woodruff P.E. Center on campus. The ceremony will be held in person and will feature remarks by Emory Law Dean Mary Anne Bobinski and winners of the Most Outstanding Graduating Student and Most Outstanding Professor awards. Emory Law will also present the Provost's Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Education and Adjunct Teaching Award. Graduating students will be individually recognized during the ceremony. Registration and further details will be provided later. For more information, visit Emory University Commencement webpage.

Graduation Checklist

February
  • Apply to Graduate: The deadline to apply for graduation is February 17, 2023. If you miss the February deadline, complete the paper form and email it to lawregistrar@emory.edu Dual Degree students must submit a degree application to both schools. You will apply online, in OPUS, for the degree of the school at which you are currently enrolled. A paper degree application must be submitted to the other school. Online and/or paper degree applications are due to both schools by the application deadline.
  • Check your name in OPUS: Is your name spelled correctly in OPUS? Have you noted your preferred name? How your preferred name appears in OPUS is how it will be listed on the Degree Candidate Recognition Ceremony booklet. The name change deadline is February 28.
  • Complete Graduate Employment Survey (JD students only): You must complete the ABA-required survey in Symplicity before you can register for the ceremony.
  • Order Regalia Now: To order regalia, visit emory.shopoakhalli.com
  • Attend a graduate fair: Graduate fairs offer the opportunity to order regalia, announcements, rings, and frames, and take cap and gown photography (regalia provided).
    • Emory Law is hosting graduate fairs on the following days in Hunter Atrium:
      • Monday, February 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
      • Wednesday, February 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Emory Barnes & Noble will host an additional graduate fair on Friday, February 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the second floor of the bookstore.
March
  • Deadline to order Regalia: March 15.
  • ABA-required Graduate Employment Survey: Complete the survey on Symplicity.
    • For JD students only.
  • Complete the Financial Aid Exit Interview: Submit your exit loan interview online here.
  • Clear Final Charges: To avoid a university hold on your diploma, pay all outstanding tuition, health services charges, parking, and library fines found on your Student Center page in OPUS.
  • Register for the School of Law Degree Candidate Recognition Ceremony: We anticipate being able to open registration, including the number of guest tickets, for Emory Law’s Degree Candidate Recognition Ceremony by Tuesday, March 28. 
    • Register by Tuesday, April 11, whether you participate virtually or in person; include a photo when you register. Detailed instructions will be sent from commencement@commencement.emory.edu and/or noreply@marchingorder.com. Please check your junk mailbox!
  • Register for the Emory University Commencement Quadrangle Ceremony: All graduate and professional students are encouraged to attend the University Ceremony on the Quadrangle Monday, May 8 at 8:30 a.m.

    This will be a ticketed event and registration will include access to two guest tickets.

April
  • Submit accommodated seating requests: This form is used to request special seating-area tickets for family members and friends with mobility concerns or other conditions. The deadline to submit this request is by Friday, April 28, 2023.
  • Submit a request to graduate in absentia: Students who will not be able to attend graduation should submit this form to obtain permission from the dean or her designee to graduate in absentia. In this case, the diploma will be mailed to the student’s permanent address listed in OPUS.
  • Request to march before completing degree requirements: 
    If you will not complete your degree requirements until Summer 2023 or Fall 2023, but would like to participate in the Law School Degree Candidate Recognition Ceremony with the Spring 2023 cohort, please complete the form found here by Tuesday, April 11.
  • Regalia pick-up begins: Pick-up will be available starting April 19, 2023.
