Emory Trustee Henrikson 72L speaks at 30th Annual BLSA Awards Reception

On Thursday, April 11, the Emory chapter of the Black Law Students Association will host its 30th Annual Scholarship and Awards Reception, featuring a keynote speech by Emory University Trustee C. Robert Henrikson 72L. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at Miller-Ward Alumni House, with the theme “Perseverance, Purpose and Promise: Paying It All Forward.”

Henrikson is a long-time supporter of Emory Law and was named a distinguished alumnus in 2006. The retired CEO, president and chair of the board of MetLife, Inc., established The C. Robert Henrikson Endowed Scholarship Fund in 2001, to recruit top students to Emory Law and encourage diversity in the student body.

In 2012, he and his wife Mary gave Emory Law $2.5 million, the largest individual gift in the law school's history, which greatly expanded the school's ability to award scholarships, especially for students who are historically under-represented. Of that amount, $1.5 million went to the Henriksons’ endowed scholarship fund, and the remaining $1 million was allocated for additional financial aid, and served as a challenge grant for matching gifts to Emory Law’s annual fund.

Proceeds from the reception go the Emory BLSA Endowment Fund, which has sustained scholarships since it was established in 1998. Since then, 37 scholarships have been awarded to BLSA members, in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.
