Dean's View

There's a great deal going on

Happy New Year! This year seems to be moving in hyper-speed, and I’m excited about the enthusiasm with which our entire community is facing the year and its opportunities. We faced some challenges in 2025, as in any year, and emerged well.

The Class of 2028 is off to a strong start in law school, the Class of 2027 continues to excel, and the Class of 2026 is in the final stretch of studies toward the bar exam and the profession. They will be spanning the country and engaging in a wonderful variety of professional endeavors, including public interest work, clerkships, and positions in firms and businesses of all sizes. Many will go to Big Law, as reflected by the fact that we rank #17 nationally in placing our graduates at the top 500 law firms.

We are welcoming new members to Team Emory Law. Professor Geeyoung Min, an outstanding scholar and teacher of corporate law, will be joining the Emory Law faculty next academic year. And we are in the process of recruiting others to burnish our nationally-acclaimed faculty. As I have noted before, our faculty ranks in the top 20 nationally in metrics of scholarly productivity and impact.

Erik Choisy has joined us as our assistant dean of admission. He brings with him experience in law admissions and financial aid as well as an understanding and appreciation for emerging technologies, holistic application review, and thoughtful forecasting. Erik joins us from Yale School of Medicine, where he served as director of admissions, after serving as associate director of admissions at the University of Michigan School of Law, where he earned his JD.

We are also pleased that Dan Taylor is joining Emory Law as our new chief business officer. Dan is an accomplished executive strategist with a portfolio of success in higher education administration. He joins us from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he most recently served as the assistant vice president of business operations.

These additions speak to our upward momentum. And so does this edition of Emory Lawyer. We have received a transformative gift from Richard Conviser, the founder of BARBRI and longtime leader in legal education. This gift is launching and supporting new initiatives in our Program of Academic Excellence — new course and program opportunities that address the needs of our students approaching the bar exam and of the profession they are entering. Also in this issue, there's a look at the good work our centers and clinics do, this time with a focus on the Barton Center as we recognize 25 years of their advocacy for children.

There’s a great deal going on at Emory Law, and I hope you’ll take the time to read through each story, emerging from that experience with amplified pride in our institution.

What we are doing is possible only with teamwork. We dream in the future, but we act in the moment — day to day, we work to get closer to those dreams, those long-term goals. Thank you so much for your investment in our mission — whether of your time or your treasure. I am so honored to be on Team Emory Law.
