Biography

Bill Avery is retired as a partner with Alston & Bird LLP. He concentrated his practice on general corporate representation, corporate finance and acquisition transactions for publicly-held and private businesses and on technology-related transactions for vendors and large users of technology.

Avery has represented a wide range of technology and other businesses in connection with venture capital and other equity and debt financing transactions, initial public offerings and follow-on public offerings of equity and debt securities. He also represented clients in manufacturing, hospitality and telecommunications and other technology industries in a variety of public and private business acquisition transactions and business dispositions including spin-offs.

His practice also included the representation of technology vendors in technology licensing transactions and agreements related to distribution channels and he represented clients in a variety of industries in connection with acquisitions of technology systems including hardware, software and service acquisitions and outsourcing transactions.

Avery received his JD, with distinction, from Emory University in 1975. He received a BChE (1965) and an MS in industrial management (1967) from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia.
