Center for Law and Social Science

The Center for Law and Social Science at Emory University includes faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate fellows with common interests in the interplay of law and social sciences.

The Center is an interdisciplinary institution that promotes research and teaching in law and social science. The Center focuses both on the law as an output (e.g. why do we see the laws we do, and what explains the design and change of legal institutions?) as well as law as an input (e.g. how does the law and application of the law affect social behavior?). Affiliated members study these questions with regards to law at the state level (both U.S. and comparative law) and the international level (e.g. the ECJ, ICC, WTO and more). The four main activities that currently advance the Center's research and teaching missions are the following:

  • Undergraduate Research Fellowships
    • Participation in the Center's seminars and conferences,
    • the opportunity to meet with leading scholars from around the globe and talk to them about their research and careers,
    • the opportunity to participate in ongoing faculty research as a research assistant, and
    • receive independent research course credit
  • Academic Conferences
  • Sponsorship of Foreign Ph.D. students
  • Speaker Series

The center is designed to encourage research that crosses disciplinary boundaries. The Center is grateful to Emory College and Emory School of Law for their generous support.

Recent publications by affiliated faculty have appeared in top journals such as American Political Science Review; American Journal of Political Science; Journal of Politics; Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization; World Politics; Journal of Law & Economics; Journal of Legal Studies; American Law and Economics Review; Michigan Law Review; Stanford Law Review; U.C.L.A.
