Biography

Dr. Lei Fang is of counsel at Thomas | Horstemeyer, LLP. Prior to joining Thomas | Horstemeyer, LLP, Dr. Lei Fang was the founder and managing partner of Lei Fang & Associates LLC (formerly also operated as Jin & Fang LLP). Dr. Fang advises domestic and international clients on a wide range of intellectual property (IP) matters. She assists clients in identifying key IPs, developing IP protection strategies, and protecting and enforcing IPs globally. She also provides legal opinions on patentability, validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) issues primarily in the life sciences sector related to biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices innovations. She also assists clients in IP due diligence and product clearance and development strategies in investment, M&A transactions, and/or technology transferring, licensing and commercialization. Her clients range from multinational corporations, to early stage entrepreneurial companies, to nonprofit universities and science research institutes. With her Chinese language skills, Dr. Fang represents Chinese clients in various corporate and IP matters in the United States.

Prior to founding her own firm Lei Fang & Associates LLC, Dr. Fang worked as a patent attorney in Am Law 100 (e.g., Troutman Sanders LLP and Eversheds Sutherland LLP). Prior to launching her legal career, she had a postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School/Brigham Women’s Hospital. She also worked as a research scientist at a biotech/pharmaceutical company in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Fang is an active member with local Asian-American organizations, many of which she serves as a legal counsel or a committee member. Besides practicing IP laws, Dr. Fang is currently adjunct professor of Emory University School of Law, teaching the contract drafting course. Dr. Fang is frequently invited to speak on IP issues in the United States and in China.
