Biography

C. Ryan Reetz is the managing partner of the Miami office of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, where he practices in the firm’s international litigation and arbitration group. His international disputes practice focuses on cases involving one or more non-U.S. companies, persons, or governments, as well as disputes involving other interests of foreign countries, such as enforcement of foreign judgments or arbitral awards, international discovery, and service of process abroad. His practice also includes class actions, complex commercial litigation, and regulatory matters. In addition to acting as counsel, he has served as an arbitrator in international commercial disputes.

Reetz frequently writes and lectures on arbitration and litigation topics. He teaches international commercial arbitration as an adjunct professor at Emory University School of Law, and previously taught at the University of Miami School of Law from 2003 to 2010. He frequently serves as a visiting professor at the University of Navarra School of Law in Pamplona, Spain, where he has also coached the school's Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team since 2008. He has served as an instructor for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and the Swiss Arbitration Academy, among other institutions, and has lectured at a wide range of law schools throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He is the co-author (with Pedro J. Martinez-Fraga) of Public Purpose in International Law: Rethinking Regulatory Sovereignty in the Global Era (Cambridge Univ. Press 2015).

Reetz has served as Chair of the Florida Bar International Law Section, the Miami International Arbitration Society, and the Florida Bar International Litigation and Arbitration Certification Committee, among others. He is active in several other professional organizations, including the American Law Institute, where he has served on member consultative groups for the Restatement (Third), The US Law of International Commercial Arbitration and the Restatement (Fourth), The Foreign Relations Law of the United States. He is admitted to practice in New York and Florida.
