Biography
Katherine M. Koops is the assistant director of the Center for Transactional Law and Practice and adjunct professor of law at the Emory University School of Law.
Before her 2015 appointment as assistant director of the Center for Transactional Law and Practice, Koops practiced corporate, securities, and banking law for twenty-six years in Atlanta, Georgia, first with Powell Goldstein LLP (which merged in 2009 with Bryan Cave LLP) and later with Taylor English Duma LLP. Her client base consisted of community banks and other companies located across the country.
In her current role, Koops teaches a course on transactional deal skills, supervises adjunct professors teaching that course, and serves as the faculty advisor for the law school’s Transactional Law Negotiation Team. She works with the executive director of the Center for Transactional Law and Practice in all aspects of the center’s administration, including adjunct faculty recruitment, curriculum development, student counseling, and outreach to alumni, law firms and employers.
Koops is a past co-chair of the Business Law Education Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section, and in that capacity has chaired and moderated a number of panel discussions on topics including contract drafting, valuation, ethics and professionalism. While in private practice, she spoke at numerous trade and industry conferences on a variety of topics, including securities law, strategic planning, corporate governance, and regulatory issues.
