Biography
Shay M. Lawson Esq is owner and Managing Attorney of the Law Firm of Lawson McKinley. The Law Firm of Lawson McKinley located in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood serves the transactional and IP needs of creative entrepreneurs through trademark, copyright, and contract related legal solutions.
Over her decade of legal practice, Shay has negotiated millions in client deals with brands such as Nike, Apple Music, Discovery Channel, iHeartMedia, and VH1. Billboard Magazine named Shay to its list of Top Music Attorneys in both 2021 and 2022 for her work representing multi-platinum, GRAMMY award winning artists, songwriters, engineers, and producers.
Shay sits on the board of Songwriters of North America and has served two consecutive terms as a Governor for the Atlanta Chapter of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYS®) as co-chair of legislative advocacy. Her work protecting clients has been featured by Rolling Stone, The Hollywood Reporter, Atlanta Business Chronicle, and Essence Magazine.
Shay is an alumna of Hampton University and Case Western Reserve University College of Law and holds a certificate in Minority Political Leadership from the Grace E Harris Leadership School at Virginia Commonwealth University.
