Each year, Emory Law’s Center for Professional Development and Career Strategy hosts a professional development program, the Bass Career Summit, for all new students. This year’s event will take place Friday, August 25, in Emory Law’s Tull Auditorium from 12:00 to 6:30 p.m. The summit will help students determine the ideal career path for them, to market themselves to prospective employers, and to understand the difference between litigation and transactional law. 

The summit will kick-off the Career Center’s professional development curriculum for first-year law students.
The Career Strategy and Design (CS&D) course, a series of eight required class sessions, will provide a clear picture of the legal market and teach the foundational skills necessary for success in job searching and long-term career development. In line with the law school's upper-level, for-credit professional development class, CS&D teaches first-year students how to present life experiences in order to successfully secure employment as legal professionals. These sessions will teach law students how to capitalize on individual advising sessions, networking events, and the myriad career opportunities that will be presented at Emory and beyond.

Other new courses this semester include a seven-week course entitled Leadership for Lawyers: An Introduction.  The course will be taught by Frank Blake, former CEO of Home Depot, and will feature a range of influential speakers such as Richard Anderson, CEO of Amtrak and formerly of Delta, and Natosha Reid-Rice, who is associate general counsel of Habitat for Humanity and associate pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
