Gambrell Hall fitted with solar panels as part of university plan to self-generate power

Emory University entered into a 22-year power purchase and lease agreement with Cherry Street Energy for solar photovoltaic arrays to be installed around campus. The installation of these solar arrays will assist Emory in achieving its goal of 10 percent on-site self-generation of power by 2025 as well as a total carbon reduction goal of 50 percent by 2050. Under the agreement, Emory does not incur any upfront costs and buys the power at lower rates than the utility charges.

Gambrell Hall (during phase 1) and the Gambrell parking deck (during phase 2) are among the 17 locations approved in September 2019. The work at Emory Law began in May, and the physical installation is complete. Testing occurred the week of August 12, and final preparations are being done to make the panels usable. Read the full story on the agreement and buildings to be improved.
