“I am very committed to our law school and its future, and I am thrilled at the opportunity to work with so many talented and committed people to support Dean Schapiro in taking Emory Law to the next level of national and global recognition,” said Diamond.
“We are delighted to have Allan’s enthusiasm and energy leading our community,” said Robert Schapiro, dean of Emory Law and Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Law. “With Allan’s leadership of the Advisory Board we gain a talented, experienced lawyer who cares about the law and understands the importance of the education we offer students in a world in which the law increasingly provides the framework for engaging the most complex problems.”
“I look forward to working with the Emory Law community and advancing our law school to new heights,” Diamond said. Diamond is the managing partner of Diamond McCarthy and a renowned trial lawyer with more than three decades of handling complex commercial litigation, class actions and business insolvencies. Most recently, he was appointed by the Department of Justice and the bankruptcy court in San Francisco as the Chapter 11 Trustee of Howrey, LLP, one of the largest law firm bankruptcies in U.S. history.
Diamond follows Gardner Courson 75L, partner at Taylor English in Atlanta, who served as chair for three years. “Gardner has been both a mentor and a friend and I have no doubt I may be calling on him for advice and assistance as we embark on a new Emory Law journey in the coming years.”
Other new appointments to the Advisory Board include:
Catharina Haynes 86L, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (Dallas); Randy New 82L, Managing Partner Kitchens, New & Cleghorn (Atlanta); Debbie Segal 79L, Pro Bono Partner Kilpatrick Townshend (Atlanta); and Reuben Guttman 85L, Partner, Grant & Eisenhofer (Washington, DC).
