Biography

Magaly Cobian serves as executive director of the Atlanta Center for International Arbitration and Mediation (ACIAM). Cobian is responsible for setting growth strategy and implementing ACIAM’s vision of being a premier venue for international dispute resolution by offering state-of-the-art hearing facilities, world-class services and continuing legal education on dispute resolution and international business.  

Cobian is a native of Lima, Peru and holds a juris doctor equivalent degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. While in Peru, she worked in private practice counseling national and international clients in matters related to cross-border transactions, corporate governance, licensing and distribution agreements, joint ventures and cross-border intellectual property rights protection.

Cobian pursued her postgraduate JD studies at the University of Miami, School of Law (UM). While attending UM, Cobian served as a member of the Moot Court Board and represented UM in the Moot Madrid, a commercial arbitration moot competition, receiving the award for best orator.

Currently, she continues to support the Moot Madrid and serves as coach for the GSU College of Law teams, which compete at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration and other international mediation moot competitions. Cobian also teaches courses on international commercial arbitration.

Prior to joining ACIAM, Cobian worked in Atlanta as corporate counsel advising on matters including corporate governance and compliance, intellectual property, contractual agreements, as well as advising on company strategy and implementation. She is a member of the Florida Bar and the Atlanta Bar Association and its Alternative Dispute Resolution section.
