Biography
Jason Marbutt is a senior assistant district attorney with the Cobb Judicial Circuit, head of the White Collar and Elder Abuse Units of the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, chairman of the Cobb Elder Abuse Task Force (CEATF), coach for the Walton High School Mock Trial Team, soccer coach, softball coach, former wrestling coach, father of three, and a former high school and elementary school teacher. He taught high school at the Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and elementary school as part of Teach for America in Newark, New Jersey. In 2018, he founded and organized the Justice for Elderly and Disabled Individuals Multidisciplinary Team (JEDI MDT), a group effort of numerous agencies serving elderly and disabled individuals in Cobb County.He has been a prosecutor for fourteen years, handling thousands of cases ranging from DUIs to murder. His current specialty is white collar crime, public integrity, and elder abuse. He regularly trains law enforcement and other prosecutors on how to investigate and prosecute those cases. All felony cases within the Cobb Judicial Circuit that involve a victim age of sixty-five or older come across his desk. In addition, he has extensive experience with complex white collar criminal enterprises. He is one of the few Georgia prosecutors with trial experience involving the Georgia RICO statute.
He is sought out statewide for his expertise, particularly as it relates to elder and disabled abuse, neglect, and exploitation. He has been the primary drafter of numerous pieces of legislation amending Georgia’s laws. In February of 2017, both the Georgia House and Senate passed resolutions honoring Marbutt for his work protecting the elderly and disabled. He has lectured nationally at the National Institute for the Prosecution of Elder Abuse (NIPEA). He is the 2018 Cobb Assistant District Attorney of the Year.
His wife is also an attorney, specializing in intellectual property litigation. They married after attending Emory Law together. They have three children.
