Write-On Competitions

2022 Write-On Competition

Emory’s five law journals select new candidates through a joint write-on competition. Any first-year student may compete. All relevant materials needed to participate in the write-on competition will be in the write-on packet provided in May 2022. The 2022 Write-On Competition begins at 9:00 a.m. EDT, Monday, May 9. The Competition ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT, Sunday, May 22.

Participants will submit a casenote, citation quiz, and personal statement, along with a preference form ranking their interests in the five journals.

Each journal weighs the three primary components of write-on differently; some journals also take first-year grades into account. Once scoring is completed, staff of the Journals decide, based on your score and your stated journal preference, who will receive an offer to join a Journal. Those participants receiving an offer of candidacy will by contacted by one—and only one—Journal in June 2022. Students chosen to be Journal members receive academic credit in their second and third years, and will fulfill their upper-level writing requirement in the course of their membership.
