Welcome to Emory Law! All events for Welcome Week are listed below. Sessions will be held in G575 Tuesday and Wednesday, and via Zoom Thursday and Friday. Please email llmadmission@emory.edu if you have any questions.

Please note: 

  • Attendance: All required online orientation sessions must be attended live. Your attendance will be tracked in Canvas and Zoom.
  • Return to Campus Requirements: Students attending in-person Welcome Week events must wear masks while indoors on campus. Students must also undergo COVID-19 testing before arriving at Emory Law.
  • Parking for In-Person Modules: Complimentary parking is available in the Lowergate South/Gambrell parking deck directly behind the law school. The night before in-person modules, you will receive an email with a QR code.This QR code will allow you to access the parking deck. For any sessions that begin after 4 p.m., parking is complimentary and a QR Code is not needed.
  • Online Sessions: The online orientation sessions will be held in Canvas. You can access those sessions by visiting canvas.emory.edu and clicking Emory Law Orientation.
  • Online Modules: There are a number of pre-orientation activities that you must complete. These modules are located in Canvas under pre-orientation activities. They must be completed by August 31.
  • SAP-G- Sexual Assault Prevention (SAP-G) is a mandatory virtual training that all students must complete. This training will not be available during orientation but you will receive emails about it during the semester. Please complete this mandatory training once you receive it.
  • Attire: Emory Law is a comfortable and welcoming community. Our students typically dress casually for class, and comfortable attire and shoes are appropriate for in-person attendance. However, please bring or wear professional attire for your scheduled headshots.
  • International students: If you have an F-1 visa, you are also required to attend events on Monday, August 9.

A brief overview of the bar application process, course requirements, and other eligibility requirements for LLM students. 
11:15 a.m.Pursuing Your Legal Career

1:00 p.m.Study Smarter: Class Preparation and Case Briefing
This first class will introduce you to judicial opinions, the cornerstone of the common law. Students learn the law by reading, analyzing, and discussing cases, and practicing lawyers craft their arguments based on what is learned from cases. This class will start you on your journey through the common law.
2:30 p.m.Meet the LLM Society
3:00 p.m.Recess and Student Resource Fair

Wednesday, August 11 (in-person)

Students will check in on the Second Floor Connector, and sessions will be held in Room G575. Please bring or wear professional attire for your afternoon headshots.

9:15 a.m.Introduction to the Socratic Method
Students will experience a demonstration of the Socratic Method using a short court case as an introduction to this method for learning law and the types of questions professors typically ask during class.

Emory University offers a variety of resources to help students succeed. We will review many of these and answer your questions.
11:00 a.m.Pro Bono, Public Interest, and Judicial Clerkships
An overview of the services, programs, and opportunities available in the Center for Public Service. Includes information about pro bono volunteer opportunities, as well as career advising for public interest, government, fellowships, and judicial clerkships.
