Students looking for a top-ranked law school, known for its exceptional scholarship, superior teaching, and demonstrated success in preparing students to practice law or enhance their professional careers with a graduate degree, should apply to Emory University School of Law.
Application for Admission
Emory Law’s electronic application ("E-App") is available through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) website. An application is complete only if all questions are answered.
Letters of Recommendation
Please have your letters submitted through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service. This service is included in your Credential Assembly Service (CAS) registration. Your letters will be copied and sent to us along with your CAS report as soon as your file becomes complete. One letter is required, but we recommend you provide three or more from a mix of academic and professional sources. If you have been in a current employment position for three months or longer, we encourage you to submit one from your current employer. If you have ever worked in the legal field, a recommendation from an attorney who has supervised your work may be particularly helpful to our reviewers.
Credential Assembly Service (CAS) Report
A complete CAS report consists of the following:
LSAT score
You must provide a valid and unexpired LSAT score.Official transcripts from all post-high school institutions
A transcript from each college and university attended should be sent directly to: Law School Admission Council, Box 2000-M, Newtown, PA 18940-0993. Please do not send this information to Emory Law. The Credential Assembly Service will analyze your transcripts and then send an electronic copy to Emory Law.At least one letter of recommendation
Once we receive your "E-App" to Emory Law, we will request your CAS report from LSAC.
Graduate Record Exam (OPTIONAL)
We are willing to consider an application complete with a valid Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score in place of an LSAT score if, and only if, the applicant is either a dual degree applicant simultaneously applying to Emory Law and another Emory graduate program, or if the applicant is a current graduate student and planning to begin the JD immediately after graduation from their current program. That being said, the evidence of the GRE's correlation with law school performance is questionable at best, and we encourage all applicants to submit an LSAT score.
Applicants applying with just a GRE score must designate school code No. 9684 for Emory Law to receive their scores.
- In the LSAT section of the application, applicants should enter 0 for the test score. In the additional tests section, applicants should enter the following information: the month and year the GRE was taken.
Personal Statement
You may choose to write about any topic(s) you believe would be most helpful to the Admission Committee. There is no specific page limit, but most personal statements are about two pages.
Résumé or Statement of Activities
Please submit an up-to-date resume, listing all of your professional activities since you graduated from high school. Please clearly indicate the month and year you participated in each activity or employment, and the weekly hours dedicated to each.
Application Fee
Please submit the $85 nonrefundable application fee through LSAC. We award need-based fee waivers only if LSAC grants the applicant a fee waiver to take the LSAT. If so, please email jdadmission@emory.edu a copy of the LSAC fee waiver, and an admission representative will respond.
Please contact the Office of Admission and Scholarships with any questions.
