Emory Law alumni prevail at Southeastern Legal Awards

At the June 20, 2024, Southeastern Legal Awards Ceremony hosted by the Daily Report, two of three attorneys honored for lifetime achievement were Emory Law alumni. The recently expanded field of nominees included lawyers from six states: Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Thurbert Baker 79L is a former Georgia State House representative and served as Georgia’s attorney general for 13 years under three governors. He is now a partner at Dentons in Atlanta, where he co-leads the firm’s US State Attorney General practice. He’s a former member of Emory Law’s Advisory Board as well as a longtime member of the Black Law Student Association’s Advisory Board. He has also served on Emory University’s Board of Visitors.
Mark Wasserman 86L is co-chief executive officer of Eversheds Sutherland Limited and has been managing partner of Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP for 18 years. He has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America for nearly two decades in the category of corporate law. In 2017, he received the “Most Admired CEO" Award from the Atlanta Business Chronicle. He is former chair of Emory Law’s Advisory Board and also served on the law school’s Transactional Law Advisory Board. Wasserman was a Woodruff Scholar while pursuing his JD at Emory.
